The Challenge
When someone needs to use text messages as evidence, in a dispute, a small-claims case, or after a scam, a screenshot often isn't enough. Exhibits need to be clean, complete, and verifiable. But the obvious tools either cost money, require uploading deeply private conversations to a stranger's server, or produce something that doesn't hold up. ExhibitKit started as a question: what would a free, trustworthy way to turn a chat export into a court-ready exhibit look like if privacy came first?
The Approach
- Nothing leaves the device: everything runs client-side in the browser. No uploads, no accounts, no server seeing private messages. That promise is stated right at the top so trust is established immediately.
- A guided exhibit builder: users bring a chat export and the tool formats it into a clean, paginated, court-ready PDF, removing the guesswork from a stressful task.
- Cryptographic integrity seals: each source file gets a SHA-256 "evidence seal" so its integrity can be independently verified, with a built-in hash checker to confirm a file hasn't changed.
- Plain-English guidance: an export guide and a dedicated section for scam victims meet people where they are, since most users aren't lawyers or technologists.
- Free and ungated: no paywall stands between a person and evidence they may urgently need.
The Result
ExhibitKit is live and free for anyone to use. Beyond the project itself, it's proof of capability on a genuinely hard build, document generation, file hashing, and a privacy-first architecture that keeps sensitive data entirely on the user's device. Clients hiring me can look at ExhibitKit and see I'm comfortable shipping serious, trust-critical tools, not just a homepage and a contact form.
